Japanese Cryptic: The group of bullies

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

When I was in elementary school, a group of 5 students used to bully the guy called A-kun.

A-kun was bad in both sports and studies, and he was always laughing foolishly. That's why he was an easy target for the bullies.

He was a quiet guy. So, when he was bullied, he didn't counterattack. He just said "Please don't do it. Kuchi ani*"

This "Kuchi ani" was his favorite phrase, he would often say the phrase while getting bullied.

I was starting to feel pity for him, so one day I asked to him.
He just laughed foolishly and replied with "It's okay. You don't have to worry about me. ".
But I could see it. His eyes were not of someone who was laughing. This was the first time, I got goosebumps just by looking at someone's eyes.

The next year, he moved schools and then everyone forgot about him gradually.

20 years have passed since that incident.

I was at the class reunion party. A friend said to me while passing alcohol.
"I remembered something just now...

You remember, the guys who used to bully A-kun? They all died."

My friend didn't know the details about it, but he told me that when those guys entered the middle school, they became mentally unstable. Everyone of them got hospitalized, and half a year later they all died.

So, that had happened. I was a creepy thing I thought. While thinking about it, I remembered A-kun's favorite phrase.
"Kuchi ani"
"Kuchi ani"
"Kuchi and ani?"
----------------------------
*Kuchi ani- Kuchi(口) and ani(兄) are two Japanese characters which form the word (呪) curse. So, A-kun put a curse on his bullies by repeating those characters.

  1. That explains it. He cursed the bullies.

  2. Just hoping the narrator is not one of the 5 guys who bullied A-kun. Well it seems the narrator was a good guy, given the current health mental and still alive.
