This incident dates back to the time when I was still studying in a middle school. During those days, my friend-circle consisted of 2 people, whom I will call A-kun and B-kun in this story.

I was friends with A-kun and B-kun since the time when we were in elementary school. Moreover, our homes were very close to each other's and this allowed us to meet every day after school.

Near to our houses was a hill that we would visit frequently. In other words, it was our meeting ground where we would hold our frivolous conversations till late night. The best thing about this was that we had permissions from our parents so staying on the hill till mid-night was not a problem for us.

It was like any other night when I was chattering with my friend A-kun on the top of the hill. Our other friend, B-kun, hadn't come yet. Even after a few hours, he was nowhere in sight. So, I said to A-kun, "Hey! B-kun is not here yet. Shall we go to his house and see what's the matter?" And so we both descended the hill and walked in direction of B-kun's house.

There was a playground of sorts that wee needed to cross before reaching B-kun's house. So, as we were crossing the playground, I caught something in my peripheral vision. On the swing, a little girl wearing all white was swinging back and forth. It was almost midnight and I was sure terrified by the presence of that girl. I turned to A-kun and spoke, "Did you just see that???" A-kun turned towards the swing to see why I was so scared.
"WHAAAAAA..." A-kun shrieked. We both immediately turned back and ran towards the hill.

When we arrived on the hill, we sat down to control the shivering of our bodies. We tried to rack our brains to give a logical justification to what we saw in the playground.

A few minutes must have passed when we saw B-kun approaching us from the dark.
"Hey, B-kun! Didn't you just come from the direction of the playground? Did you see a little girl on the swing?"
"No, I saw nothing like that"
"We definitely saw her, right, A-kun?"

To remove our all doubts, all three of us went back to the park. There on the swing, we saw her. The girl was still there. Immediately, we ran back to the hill.

"So, we were right. B-kun, did you see her this time?"
"Yes. I believe you. She was smiling."
"I didn't look at her face. I was damn terrified."
"Same goes for me. I, too, didn't have the courage to look at her face"

The very next day, B-kun lost his life when he was run over by a truck. Could it not be possible that the girl was a shinigami and her smile was more of a gateway to death. In our group, only B-kun saw her smile and was thus taken to the afterlife by her.

Urban Legend

This is the story of a couple who arrived at an old building that was
rumored to be rife with supernatural activities. They searched the place for an
hour or so but couldn't find or feel anything that they could call
'paranormal'. Dejected and Disappointed, they returned to their car, started
it, and headed back towards their home.

"Tch...nothing happened..."
"Yeah...It was boring."

They chatted such useless things while riding the car back. At this point,
the boyfriend, who was driving the car, was blinded by a beam of light from an
oncoming vehicle. From the looks, it seemed like a motorbike. As soon as they
passed the bike, the boyfriend hit the gas pedal hard and sped up the car.

"Hey!--That's dangerous..." the girl spoke in a distressed voice.

Her boyfriend, however, didn't listen. His face was pale with fear, and he
was trying his best to control the car with his trembling hands. After a while,
when they reached a familiar street, he stopped the car.

"What was that??" the girl asked.
"The bike rider...whom we passed a while ago...didn't have
a...head."

Headless spirits are nothing new and they have been a part of popular culture
from ancient times. Among these headless spirits, the most famous one in Japan
is the legend of a headless rider. Its reality most probably lies in a tragic
accident where a motorbike rider, who was unaware of an installed wire on a
road, got his head stuck in the wire and died on the spot due to decapitation.
Also, it might be the case that in the darkness of the night, a black helmet
is not clearly visible and so people who see such riders might assume that they
are the headless riders from the legend.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I wanted to translate Headless Rider's urban legend that I first saw in Gakkou no Kaidan. Oh! Btw Celty from Durarara!!! is also a headless rider.

As T-san narrates, he was in his car that ominous day. He had been to his friend's house and was now driving back to his own house. The timing must have been somewhere around 4 in the afternoon.

After a few hours of driving, he felt something was off. He could hear the sounds of water-droplets hitting his car's body. But it wasn't the sound of rain that startled him, rather, he was vexed because the weather outside...was clear as a day! Then, where was this rain-droplets sound coming from?

T-san, as he recalls, said that he was still driving at this point. He was trying to come to terms with this perplexing phenomenon...when suddenly, his car hit something. A huge thud resounded inside the car. He felt a chill run over his body...an eerie chill.

Whatever it was that had hit the car was not visible to T-san. He, however, felt the presence of something sinister on his car's hood. He described the presence as something that was out of this world---something supernatural. His hands were trembling as he continued driving towards his destination.

T-san sped up his car in the hope that the 'entity' would fall due to the higher speed of the car. While speeding, he was shouting at the top of his voice. "GO AWAY FROM ME!" his trembling mouth belched out the words. The rain could still be heard.

T-san was going at an insane speed. The traffic light in front of him turned red. Since the transition of the light was so sudden, he had to brake hard. As soon as he braked his car, there was a sound of something falling over to the ground. With that sound, the presence of the entity was no more. Also, T-san could not hear even the rain-droplets.

Paralyzed by fear, T-san somehow reached his home. T-san, who now wanted to know the explanation of what he experienced, called his psychic-friend and narrated the whole incident.

The psychic-friend revealed to him that one year ago there was an accident at the spot where T-san felt the entity on his hood of the car. On that day, it was raining heavily. An old-woman was crossing the street when a car came and hit her with full force. Now, since the woman had a small body, her body got stuck on the hood of the car. Her body was stuck in that position until the car made a stop at a red light, and with the stoppage of the car, her body tumbled to the ground. She was dead. T-san was overcome with grief after hearing this.

When I head this story from T-san, I was ambivalent. I didn't know whether to be scared or to feel sorry for the old woman. What makes some souls enter nirvana? What turns some souls into vengeful spirits? I had no answer.

It seems that entering nirvana upon death is not an easy thing to do, is it?

Cryptic Story

This story is about a man.

That man had an enemy whom he wanted to kill desperately.

However, the man didn't have the courage to kill someone himself, so he searched for different methods. One day, he found a black-magic book.

In the book was the ritual to summon a Shinigami.

He recited the incantations.

The Shinigami presented itself before the man.

Shinigami : "I'm the god-of-death! Whatever you wish I'll make it true."

Man : "I want to kill a person."

Shinigami : "No big task for me. However, in return, I want your life."

The man didn't fear death. He replied firmly.

Man : "Certainly."

Shinigami : "Very well. Then I shall grant your wish."

Shinigami disappeared after that.

A few days later, the man's enemy died.

The man, however, lived on.
"M---o---"
Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

I'm a spy. Currently, I'm in this country where they are developing a certain 'magical' drug. The special thing about this drug is that it's supposed to make your body incorporeal.

I'm masquerading as assistant to a professor who's the lead on this project.

After months and months of research, the drug was finally produced. I wasted no time in stealing it.
Now, the plan was to escape from the facility. As I was escaping, I was caught by the professor.

Prof: "What...the hell are you doing?"

I: "Hehe! Just think of this as my reward for helping you all the time."

Prof: "Stop with this nonsense! The guards outside will kill you."

I swallow the drug and point the gun at the professor.

I: "Shut up! Do you even know about this drug? Guards will kill me? What a joke! This drug will make my body incorporeal and make me pass through walls."

Prof: "That drug works perfectly...and that's its defect."

I: "Perfect and defective. Don't talk crap to me."

The professor started laughing hysterically.

Prof: "You will see soon enough"

Suddenly, I felt as if my body was floating.

I experienced all the things: agony, pain, and death.

Cryptic Story

I got married a few months ago. My wife does house-work quite well and obeys whatever I tell her to do. Overall, she's a woman of fine-character.

We needed a decent house, so I bought an apartment. Initially, we were renting it; however, it seemed a better idea to buy it.

The apartment looks amazing from the outside--it elicits a high-class feeling. Our room had most of the furniture already present. As our room was on the top floor, the view from our window was splendid. On the top of everything, the apartment was cheap. Due to all these reasons I bought the apartment. My wife wasn't too pleased with my decision, but she agreed somehow.

A certain day, at around 11 in the night...

"Thud Thud Thud Thud Thud Thud Thud Thud---"
"Hahaha Hahaha---"

It seemed like a baby was running and laughing.

I didn't mind it much and went to sleep.

However, the noises didn't cease. Every night, I was disturbed by the annoying noises.

When I couldn't take it more I decided to complain to the tenants upstairs
"This is it. I'm going to tell them off!"

My wife, who had never opposed me, grabbed my arm and said in a weeping voice.
"Please...you must not do that..."

I decided to drop that idea.

To this day I'm grateful to my wife.

Cryptic Story

A certain day, a kidnapper abducted twin sisters.

Eyes and mouth of both sisters were sealed using a duct-tap by the kidnapper.

The kidnapper creeped towards elder-sister's ear and whispered in an artificial voice,
"Don't try to resist or I'll kill your little sister."

The kidnapper then whispered in younger-sister's ear,
"If you resist, I'll murder your elder-sister."

The sisters could do nothing except comply.

Ghost Story

Long time no see.

This time I'll narrate you the creepy experience of my friend A(a woman in her twenties).

A had recently joined a company. The company was somewhat distant from her house and therefore she used trains to commute to her work daily. The train station was about at a 10-minute walking distance from her house and had a rail-road crossing in-between.

That day, her company had a drinking party. She returned to home from work and headed to the party place after changing her clothes.

She had lots of fun drinking with her co-workers. When the party was over, she headed to Karaoke with her close friends. In the midst of all the fun, she completely lost track of time and it was already the time for the last train. Not wanting to miss the train, she took her leave and hurried towards the train station. Fortunately, she was able to reach there just in time and board the train.

The thick darkness outside the train was a sign that it was already past the midnight.

She got down at the station near her home.

As she was walking on the platform, she got struck with this really deep uneasy feeling. At the very end of the platform, she saw a white figure. However, she was drunk so she blamed it on that and headed to her house.

While walking on the pathway to her house, she got a feeling of being followed by something. She figured it might be the white figure from before.

Hastily, she reached the rail-road crossing. The alarm was beeping--a sign of oncoming train. Not wanting to get stuck with the white thing from before, she hurriedly crossed the rail-road crossing before the gate could close.

She looked back. The white figure was standing behind the closed gate of the crossing. When she realized the abomination that was following her for so long, she got goosebumps on her whole body.
The figure looked like a woman in white clothes. The face, however, was totally covered by her black hair. Although it seemed like the figure was standing, it was totally in an unnatural way. The whole of her lower body was transparent.

The oncoming train blocked the view for a few moments. When the train was gone, so was the white figure.

My friend ran towards her house.

It's been a long time since that incident and A has not encountered that white thing again. She even searched about any accidents that might have happened there but she couldn't find any.

Whatever it was will remain a mystery, that's for sure.

Cryptic Story

Today we had seat-rearrangements in our class.

Unfortunately, my new seat was next to the window but I was happy, as my crush, A-chan's seat was beside me.

I was overjoyed.

"Where has Pi-chan gone to?"

I was frantically searching for Pi-chan.

Sensei had told me that Pi-chan was inside our hearts so I searched inside everyone's heart: gorou-kun's heart, and even inside my best friend Mi-chan's heart.

But Pi-chan was nowhere!

"I couldn't find Pi-chan inside any of my friend. Now, what should I do?"

"Ah~ I get it!"
Finally, I've found you, Pi-chan.
Cryptic Story

"Tell me, what color do you like?"
A little girl asked her neighbor.

The neighbor replied, "Blue, it is."

The next day the neighbor was found dead in the sea--death by drowning.

"Tell me, what color do you like?"
The little girl asked a girl.

"I like red."

The next day she was found dead in her room. Her room was sprayed red with her blood.

"Tell me, what color do you like?"
The little girl asked a boy.

"I like brown."

The next day that boy was found dead. He was buried deep inside the ground.

"Tell me, what color do you like?"
The little girl asked my mom.

My mom replied, "Not any color in particular."

Next day, she died while gouging her eyes out.

During the funeral, I heard the women talking about the incident.

"So many unfortunate deaths have occurred recently~ "
"Now that you mention it, the other lady who died recently...her son hasn't been found yet."
"Hmmm..."

Ah! you talking about the kid who loved brown color? You women sure love gossiping.

The little girl asked the women, "What color do you like?"

"Sigh! Again?"

Cryptic Story

My papa is a very kind man. He takes good care of me. He is very good at cooking. He is always complimenting by saying things like cute and such.

I love him very much. However, sometimes when he looks at me, he makes a sad face and says "too thin." I get sad.

On the other side of the door, a lot of monsters live. I refrain from going there. I listen to music every day and stare at the dolls my papa makes.

My papa is a doll-maker. He has a cold box that has a lot of dolls inside it.

One, two, three, four, five,... six dolls I lined up.

Their faces a little bigger than mine, the hair a little longer.

My dad's favorite doll is the one with long black hair and a white face.

He yells "Nakajima-san" when he takes her out of the cold box.

I don't like Nakajima-san, however. My favorite doll is the one with brown hair and small eyes.
I get strange feeling whenever I look at her. My papa said I resemble that doll. Maybe, that's why I like her.

Papa loves Nakajima-san, so I threw her on the other side of the door, at the monsters. She was soon boiled by them.

Now, papa has no choice but to love me.

After throwing Nakajima-san, I could hear creepy voices from the other side. There are really a lot of monsters on the other side.

Papa won't be mad at me. I'm sure he'll still say cute to me.

What would I get for today's dinner? I hope it's some tasty meat.
A man got his hands on a mysterious box that had "stop" written on it.
The top-side of that box had a red switch on it.
The man pushed the button. As he did that, the world came to a complete halt.
The man committed crimes while the world was at a halt.
However, soon he came to realize what a gravity of his mistake.

I live in a 2-Dimensional space.

I'm having a great time here.

The author is going to write a happy ending for me, so I have no qualms and am loving my story so far.

After enduring great pains, I've found good friends. I've found people who really love me...

I realize something.

That's it!!

Hey, stop writing it!

I don't care for happy-ending!

NO.

However, my decry was in vain. The author ended up giving me a happy ending.

Short Story

I have a special skill of foresight. This skill, however, is not as good as it sounds. If anything, I consider it more of a curse than a skill.

Imagine enjoying a peaceful day and suddenly you get a horrible premonition of the demise of your loved one. Sounds more like a curse than a blessing!

The premonition of my mother's death precluded me from shedding tears when it actually happened.
When my friend passed away in an accident, I couldn't cry as I already knew about it due to this curse.

Today, at school, it was announced that we are going to Hawaii for the school trip.

We reach the airport. The roll-call starts. Suddenly, I start seeing images in my head. It's the premonition. It is the premonition of a bomb going off in the airplane we are about to board. It all feels like a movie. I can even feel the blast on my body.

I hear faint voices in the background. I snap out of my premonition. The roll-calls are going on.

Thank god. We still haven't boarded. I need to alert the teachers. But are they going to believe me?
What should I do?

The roll-calls come to an end. The teachers start giving boarding direction to the students.

Me: "Sensei, can't we change the boarding time?"

They paid no heed to me.

This is bad. Need to do something. At this rate, they are going to board the plane. What should I do?

I make something up. I lie to the teachers about my father collapsing.

"It's an emergency! I need to go to my father. He's in trouble!"

The teachers allow me to stay behind.

All, except me, board the plane. They wave their hands at me to say goodbye.

"Goodbye everyone..."
I know what will happen to the plane.

The plane accelerates and takes off.

"Farewell..."

...
...

"Dad, I saw the news on TV. There was a terrorist bomb attack in the airport. Is big-brother going to be okay?"
"Don't worry! The attack happened after the plane's take off. Your brother must be safe on the plane. Look forward to the souvenirs."

Short Story

You guys remember the Tokyo-earthquake that happened some time ago? This incident took place at the same time.

It was the midnight hour, and, I, like any sane person, was sleeping soundly on my bed. Unfortunately, my sleep was soon taken away from me by the telephone's frantic ringing.

*Brrrringgg*
*Brrrringgg*
*Brrrringgg*
*Brrrringgg*

Who the hell is calling me at this hour? I hope it's not the news of some relative's death. Maybe, it's a call from some sales-company trying to scam people off at the late hour.

Anyway, I need to pick it up.

"Hello...?"

"Ah--Did I wake you up? I did!"

That was the voice of my friend who lived nearby.

"Don't 'Wake you up' me, you idiot-kun! What do you need at this hour?" the annoyance was audible in my tone.

At the very moment, the ground started shaking side-ways violently--the sign of an imminent earthquake.

"What the...? Earthquake...Is your run-down shabby house gonna be okay? Lol" I jested.

However, there was no reply from his side. Maybe, he just hung up.

I retreated back to my room to sleep once again. I opened the door to my bedroom.

The scene that I witnessed in that room was not something I was expecting. A few magazine and two dumbbells had fallen from the book-shelf right onto my bed. Had I been sleeping on the bed, I would have been squashed by those things.

I put those things aside and went to sleep.

The next day, I went to my friend's house to apologize to him. The friend, however, had no recollection of ever calling me yesterday's night.

Strange, isn't it.

I: "Huh? You can't be serious. (lol)"

Friend: "It's very real. In fact, I did participate in a game."

I thought he was jesting, but his face looked serious.

I: "Heh? If you really did participate, then what was the end result?"
Friend: "Me? There were 3 people."

She was so much scared of this stalker that she started seeing him in her dreams. At this point, Madoka-chan couldn't bear it anymore. She shouted, "Drop dead!"

The very next day, a dismembered body of Kyubey was discovered in the outskirts of the village.

Madoka-chan thought that this was her deed, and she could kill anyone in her dreams. She told the villagers that she can use magic to kill anyone in her dreams.

"Mami-chan, you have appeared in my dreams. You will die."
Next day, a headless body of Mami-chan was found.

"Sayaka-chan, you too, will die."
Next day, Sayaka-chan fell off the bridge.

"Anko-chan, you too, will die."
Anko-chan died in an explosion the next day.

"Papa, you too, will die."
Next day, papa hanged himself.

"Homura-chan, you too, will die."
However, Homura-chan didn't die.
Even after a few days, she didn't die.

Madoka-chan couldn't obliterate people in her dreams after that. Villagers thought Madoka was a swindler, so they banished her from the village.

"This is strange!!" Madoka murmured.

Madoka-chan had lost her magical ability.
Cryptic Story

My name is Yumi.

I have the power to see the future.

I see my test paper before the exam, so I easily score 100 on all tests.

Oh, there's a problem!

When I used my power in my house, I saw a burglar with a knife.

Fufufufu~

I'm not scared! I'll use my power to find a suitable hiding spot.

Eh?!

...That's strange. Why is everything so dark?

...I see. I must have hidden in the basement.

That's a child's play.

I feel safe now.

Next day, Yumi-chan was found dead.

Ghost Story

This incident took place when I was still in the middle-school. It was during the school-excursion I met a young lady who was our advisor for the trip. I should tell you that I've always been an occult fanatic, so this time too I, after having some immaterial conversation with her, ended up steering the conversation into the domain of occult.

"Sensei, have you ever experienced something unearthly?"

Judging by her expression, she seemed like she was one of those "psychics*".
She collected her thoughts for some time and began articulating her thoughts.

Six-years ago, Sensei started noticing strange things in her house. Though, she didn't pay much heed to the spirit in the beginning. Rather than being scared of it, she was indifferent to the spirit's existence.

The spirit was a middle-school girl. Sometimes, she would be seen standing in the corridor, other times she was sitting on the stairs and looking down at the Sensei.

Needless to say, Sensei got a little scared after seeing her so many times. When she couldn't bear it anymore, she decided to ask her mother about it. The mother, though initially ambivalent, decided to tell Sensei the truth.

"The guy who planned this building had a daughter, who'd often come to see her dad working during the construction of this building. Unfortunately, a construction-accident killed her while she was near the staircase."

Many times we contemplated contacting the planner-guy to ask about this, but we never got a hold of him.

When she was finished with her story, I felt nothing but empty feeling in my heart. It was not because I was scared but because of a certain thought. The thought that the girl Sensei was talking about could be my very own sister who died 6-years ago in the same way. The planner-guy they couldn't contact was most probably my own father who committed suicide 5-years ago.

Probably, the thing that astounded me the most was that my sister hadn't still entered nirvana**.

I explained it all to my Sensei and asked if I could go and meet my sister.

The next day, I reached the Sensei's house. Sensei took me to the place where the ghost was frequently seen. The room didn't have much light and was already dimly lit like twilight.

"My sister has been living all alone in such a place for so long! I feel disgusted with myself." Such thoughts echoed in my brain.

Sensei left the place to give me some alone time.

Despite the intense emotions that had rendered me speechless, I collected my thoughts and began speaking.

"Sorry for making you live in this place all alone for such a long time."
"Sorry for not noticing your pain."
"I've come for you now. Let's return home together."

Tears started dripping down my eyes in the midst of my monologue.

What must be my sister thinking of me? I made such a kind sister suffer for so long in solitude.

A few moments later, I felt a someone's pat on my shoulder.

I turned around.

A completely unknown girl was standing there---her face eliciting nothing but dread.
A wicked smile appeared on her face as she whispered.

"You'll take me with you?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Psychics: Here psychics means someone who can see ghosts.
**Nirvana: Going to heaven.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright! How you doing guys? Sorry, for the delay in post. I was contemplating posting new cryptics but never got the time. Hopefully, I'll be regular from now on.
