Japanese Cryptic: Late Night Gaming

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

Yesterday, I played video-games till late night.

While I was playing the game, I saw the reflection of a face on the black loading screen.

When I looked around, I found that it was the poster behind me that was reflecting in the screen.

I shouldn't have put that Higurashi poster there.

  1. This all I've got: apparently "Higurashi" in Japanese means "evening cicada", the poster is about an insect => an insect can't have a face. There is a ghost in the room

    1. There's a horror anime titled "higurashi no naku koro ni" and they have a live action for it, so i think this higurashi is what the narrator talked about.

    2. I immediately thought about the anime too, so I didn't really understand this story. After reading Thài's comment, though, I think he may be right, at least it makes more sense that way..?

    3. Is it that the poster is behind him, so it shouldn't have a reflection?

    4. @Mizuki I'm pretty sure the Higurashi in question is in fact the anime. There's no point in leaving it untranslated and capitalising it unless it's a proper noun. Most likely, the other Anon is right.

    5. Oh, yes, you're right! Thanks for pointing that out, I'm still bad with this kind of stuff ^^

    6. Nah, you don't have to thank me. I was just stating my opinion after all. I also couldn't figure out the story myself. It's just that I thought Anon's explanation made more sense.

    7. Thanks everyone for your theories. The cryptic part is that the narrator is concerned about the face from the Higurashi poster reflecting than no reflection of the narrator's own face.

The Higurashi here refers to the anime Higurashi.

  2. What is weird is why the narrator's face isn't the face reflected on the screen? Is s/he a transparent ghost? Hahaha

    1. Yes, that's what I believe to be the cryptic part of this story.

  3. probably, the author has this illness like Milla Jovovich's Crowd, unable to recognize face, and actually the face from the reflection was his/her own face.

    1. I don't know what's creepier: Prosopagnosia or having no reflection.

If it's Prosopagnosia, the narrator is surely having a hard time playing video-games.

    2. Hey Shishou....speaking of games...do you know the zero escape series? I highly recommend you play it since it is pretty underated

    3. A scientific answer, I like that.

    4. @Anonymous Yeah, I'm quite familiar with Zero escape series as I've already played its first game, 999.
The remaining two games I'm yet to play; will play them once I get done with a few other games.
