Cryptic Story

Friend: "I'm very sorry."

Me: "Hey, I told you to stop it."

Friend: "My sister...she's hospitalized...I need money."

Me: "Are you okay? Hold yourself together."

Friend: "...Thanks..."

Me: "I...I could lend you one hundred thousand Yen if you like."

Friend: "Thank you very much. Umm..how should I say it..."

Me: "Don't worry. I have some dinner still left. Come on, have a meal."

Friend: "Thank you."

Me: "What are you saying. We are close friends, aren't we?"

Friend: "I was thinking of suicide...If you weren't there for me, I would have already..."

Me: "Hey, don't even think about it."

Friend: "Sorry for disturbing you at such a late hour."

Japanese Ghost Story : The man in reflection

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Ghost Story

japanese-creepy-train-window-glass
The incident that I'm about to narrate happened when I was still an elementary school student.

During those days, I regularly used trains to travel to travel to and back from the school.
One way trip took up to 30 minutes. So, naturally, I found myself drowning in boredom during the journey.

Usually, I, my sister, and my friend---3 of us---would travel together to the school. But there were times when they were involved in club activities, and I traveled all alone back from school.

So during such a time, when I was traveling alone back from school, I came across this creepy incident.

The outside of the train was completely dark because of the winter season.
I was mindlessly gazing at the dark landscape through the window.

Just like always, I was in the first car of the train and was gazing outside at the dark scenery.
A while later, I came up with this funny game to kill the time. It was "choose a particular person being reflected in the glass, then turn back and find that person inside the train."

I immediately started picking people with peculiar features and searched for them inside the train.
It was a simple game but I was enjoying it.

After a while of playing, I saw a tall guy with glasses. He was taller than everyone on the train and this particular feature made him stood out from the other people. I wondered why I didn't notice such a characteristic person sooner.

"He might have boarded the train at the last station", I thought.
I turned back to search for that person, but much to my surprise, I couldn't find him anywhere among the crowd. Such a tall person should be easily findable in the crowd, right? That's why I turned again and again to search for that person. But he wasn't there. He even stopped reflecting in the window glass after some time.

At first I thought it could be my imagination.
But now, I think I certainly saw a man who was only visible in the glass, and maybe he wasn't present inside the train.

Japanese Cryptic: Library

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

I went to borrow a book at the library.

I saw a book-rack along the wall that had all the featured novels lined up.

I picked up a novel with interesting title and turned the pages to see if it was interesting.

I glanced back at the rack and saw someone looking at me from the other side of the rack.

We looked at each other for about 10 minutes.

After that, I took 3 copies of that book to the librarian and borrowed them.

On my way back I wondered why I didn't borrow such a book earlier.

Well, it didn't matter now.

Japanese Horror: The real haunted house

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Short Story

It happened to me when I was visiting an amusement park along with my friend.
That amusement park was popular for its gigantic haunted house.

The haunted house was creepy than we had expected but we all knew that the ghosts were humans wearing creepy outfits.

After a while we came across an emergency exit, but we decided to continue exploring the haunted house.

As we moved more and more deeper in the house, we noticed that our surrounding had become very dark.

At this point we had reached a place with no ghost-costumed humans near us.

Japanese Horror: Heaven or hell? What do you like?

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Short Story

My phone rang late at night.

I picked it up while half asleep.

"Hello...?"

"HEAVEN OR HELL? WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE?"

"Huh...?"

I was getting irritated at this point.

Why is this idiot prank calling at this late hour?

I was really irritated.

I looked at the watch. It was 2 AM.

My irritation had now reached its peak.

"Why the hell are you calling at this hour, you idiot!"

I hanged up the phone after saying that.

I recalled last night's incident in the morning.

What should I do if that person calls me again? I did my morning chores while thinking over that.

I opened up the entrance door to go out.

I saw something that took my breath away.

"A LOT OF BIRDS' CORPSE WERE LYING IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE!"

NOT ONE, BUT 4. ALL OF THEM WITH ONLY THEIR HEAD REMAINING.

Japanese Ghost Story : Used laser printer

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Ghost Story

printer-horror-japanese-image
Never in my life I'd buy an used printer again.

I was still an university student during those days. Just like normal students, we were required to prepare reports on a frequent basis; therefore, I decided to buy a second hand printer off the market.

It was the weekend so I and my friend decided to wander around Akihabara in search of something interesting. Eventually, we reached a shop that had all kinds of used electronic products. In the midst of other items, I found a wonderful black and white laser printer.

Price was 9800 Yen ($88 appx). No a bad deal, huh?

It looked comparatively new with some warranty period still left. I was lucky.

We returned to the apartment quickly, installed the drivers, and decided to do some test prints.
I went to toilet after clicking on the print button. My friend switched on TV and started watching some random show.

A few moments later, my friend noticed an unusual phenomenon. Even though it was a test print, the printing process did not stop after printing one page. Rather, it used up all the pages and stopped only after that.
He looked at the printing program but couldn't find any error that might have caused this.

He looked at the printed pages
 "Huh?"

There was a woman's face printed on all the pages. Most of the features of her face were all blurred out but it could be seen that she had black colored eyes, hair and mouth.
Her face was printed such that she was glaring in our direction.

Moreover, her face had a slight difference in every picture.

To be sure, this time we printed a text file.
No mistaking it. The printer printed something on its own.

"Why did you throw me?"

That was it. My friend decided to return it and went to the shop. Unfortunately, the shop had already closed so he returned back.

I didn't want to spend the whole night with the printer in my room, so I asked my friend to help me carry it to the University club room. Initially he wasn't willing to but agreed when I offered him a free treat on the way.

The next day we went to the university to retrieve the printer. There was a junior outside the club room and he was looking at me without a troubled face.

"Sir, did you stay in this room yesterday night?" he asked.

According to him, the student council put a notice on the door which read "Please don't stay in this room"

For the time being I asked him to to inquire about that from other students.
I carried the printer back to the shop.

The salesperson checked it but found nothing out of the order, so he refused to take it back.

For some reason, I then asked him to buy it back from me. He agreed for 3000 Yen.

I returned to the university and continued my talk with the junior.
We talked whether somebody really stayed in that room last night.

The junior went to the student council for confirmation. Another person, who was in charge, told me this:

"Last night when the Janitor was patrolling the area, he heard a woman's scream coming from that room. He tried approaching the room but the lights went out and the door got automatically locked. He knocked on the door continuously but it didn't open. "

The junior returned and told that he asked every club member about it. Also, it doesn't look like some outsider stayed in that room.

When the student council got fully convinced that it was not some intruder, they changed the lock of that room.

I wonder what happened that night.
If we hadn't move that printer out of my house, what would have happened to me...

Japanese Cryptic: Ropes

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

I went on camping trip with my friend.
We wandered around here and there and came across a long rope bridge.
There was a river under it. The bridge was so high that people won't be able save us if we fell.
I was quite thrilled while crossing it. Suddenly, a board came off and I fell through the hole!
Fortunately, I caught the net of that bridge that prevented me from falling to my death.
I shouted for help to my friend. He wasted no time and rescued me.
He said, "Are you okay? I really want the authorities to repair these ropes of the bridge."

Japanese Ghost Story : Footsteps at night

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Ghost Story

creepy-stairs-footsteps-night

The following incident happened during my 1st year as a working adult. During that time, I was living all alone in a 5 storied apartment building.
The surroundings of that building were calm and serene---something I'm quite fond of.

But as they say, all good things come with a catch. There was a certain thing that I disliked about that apartment.

Someone had this bad habit of descending the stairs at 3 A.M. in the night. I could hear the unusual footsteps descending down the stairs every night.
I hadn't come face to face with that person, but judging from the footsteps I figured it might be a small kid. Moreover, the footsteps used to stop abruptly after descending till the 4th floor, the floor on which I lived.

I was not scared or something like that, I was just annoyed by them. But of course, I could sleep peacefully once the footsteps stopped after reaching the 4th floor.

However, one week passed and the footsteps showed no signs of disappearing.

Thud...Thud...Thud...Thud...Thud...Thud...Thud...Thud...Thud...

The earth-shattering footsteps could be heard again.

Japanese Cryptic: Inside a casket

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

Right now I'm inside a frigid casket.
My mom and dad went out of this casket some time ago.

But this casket has glasses in all directions; it's quite bright in here, so I'm not scared.

I'm getting thirsty little by little.

I want some water...

Mom and dad, please come back fast...

Japanese Cryptic: A new living creature

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

We were able to create a new living creature successfully.
But, it couldn't eat any meal and got thin very fast.

We tried feeding it various things: fruits, vegetables, meat, but it refused to eat them.
No matter what we gave, it didn't eat.

We tried roasting the food, we tried deep frying the food, we tried everything we could think of, but it was all futile.

And in the end, that thing died due to weakness.

I broke down crying.

Japanese Urban Legend: The phone call from Mary

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Urban Legend

Mary san image
Hello...?
You are all alone at home and suddenly your phone starts ringing.

You pick it up and the person on the other side says,

"I'm Mary. Right now, I'm at X."

Even if you cut the phone call, it will ring again.

"I'm Mary. Right now, I'm at (Some place closer to your house)."

And then it rings again.

"I'm Mary, Right now, I'm in front of your house."

You daringly open up the front door only to find nothing.

You think someone was playing prank on you.

But the phone rings again.

"I'm Mary. Right now, I'm behind you."

If you look back, she stabs you with a sharp tool, and you die due to blood loss.

How to survive:

1. Lock all the doors.
2. Don't take the call.
3. Stand with a wall behind your back.
4. Even if she is behind you, don't look back.
5. Escape from the house using anything other than the main gate.

Japanese Urban Legend: The red crayon

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

I heard this story from my friend who used to work as a real estate agent.

During those days, he was in the charge of a certain apartment. There was a peculiar thing about that apartment: it had a room with an ambience completely different from the other rooms.

He always got a strange sensation whenever he entered that room. One day, he noticed that the corridor of that room was 1 meter shorter that the other rooms. He wondered whether this was the reason he felt weird in this room.

He wondered why it was shorter. He tried tapping on the wall that was at the end of that corridor. When he did that, he figured that there was a certain vacant space between the original wall and the wall he was now tapping.

Japanese Urban Legend: The white string

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Urban Legend

There was a woman who wanted to wear earrings, so she pierced her ears on her own.

But her ears became itchy because of that. When she looked into the mirror, she found that a white string like thing was sticking out of that piercing hole. She started pulling the string out, but after a while her vision went dark.

By the way, that white string was her optic nerve, that's why she lost her eyesight.

Japanese Horror: The video tape

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Creepy Person

Video tape
Source: Kowabon
There was a university student who used to live all alone.
He lived in a pretty normal apartment, but strange things used to happen once in a while.

One day, he returned from the university and noticed that the position of the trash-can and curtains had changed.

Recently, he was also getting the feeling of being followed. He was creeped out by this and consulted his friend.

"Maybe, it's a stalker? It'd be best to talk with the police about it...but they won't take any action as no damage has been done.", he said to his friend.

Japanese Cryptic: The Elevator

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Edited by Clayton

Cryptic Story

A friend of mine lives on the 14th floor of a high-rise apartment building.
Arriving home one night, at midnight, he stepped on to the elevator and hit the button for the 14th floor, like always. However, just as the elevator began to move, the button for the 8th floor lit-up as if it were pressed at the last second.

"Huh? Did somebody get in with me?" my friend said he wondered out-loud.

Surprised, he hit the buttons for the next few floors (2, 3, 4, 5) in hopes of stopping the elevator.
As the elevator passed the second floor without stopping he panicked and began to pry open the doors. The doors, being forced open, stopped the elevator on the third floor and he fled the elevator and the building.
He spent the rest of the night reading at a convenience store thinking about what had happened.  By sunrise he had convinced himself that he had over reacted to the situation and went home.

However, he has never used that elevator late at night again.

Japanese Cryptic: Human Eyes

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

A salary-man was looking outside the window of his apartment.
At that moment, a woman jumped from the rooftop of that building to commit suicide.
The man saw her fall to the ground through his window.
Later, he said this.
"My eyes met her...."
Human eyes are one of the most creepy things.

Japanese Ghost Story : The human head

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Ghost Story

window at night
Don't leave the curtains open
It happened one night during my sophomore year at high-school.
I was completely exhausted due to the club activities at my school, so I went home, quickly ate the dinner and finished the bath.

I went to my room and quickly collapsed on the bed. The drowsiness fell upon me and I fell asleep without closing the curtains.

Sleeping without closing the curtains was the mistake I was going to regret.

Even though I was tired, my eyes opened up on their own at midnight.
The room was eerily silent at that hour. I realized that I had left the curtains open, so I decided to get up and close them.

But I realized this uncomfortable feeling... I couldn't move my body.

"Sleep paralysis?", I thought, and tried desperately to  move myself. But my every attempt was in vain.

Japanese Ghost Story : I already know

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Ghost Story

My aunt has the ability to see spirits from a very young age.

That day too she encountered something bad.
She saw an old woman who was cycling with all her effort.

It was not an uphill road, just a normal flat road, but the old woman was having problems cycling on that road. She was drenched with sweat.

"What is happening?", my aunt thought.

My aunt looked in direction of the basket of that cycle. In that she saw a freshly severed head.

Japanese Horror: The red room

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Creepy Person

A girl decided to move to Tokyo to attend her new university.
She rented an apartment room and started living alone.

Once she started living in the room, she found that there was a small hole on the room's wall.
That hole was connected to the neighboring room. She peeked into it.
Everything was completely red on the other side.
"Do they have red wallpapers?", she thought.
And she started peeking everyday into the hole.

So, after peeking in everyday, she finally got curious about it.
She asked the landlord about it. "What type of person lives in the neighboring room?", she inquired.

The land lord replied, "A sick person with red eyes lives in that room."

Japanese Cryptic: Overspeeding car

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

A young policeman  stopped a over-speeding car.
"Show your license."
"I don't have it. It got revoked half a year back."
"What? This car, is it yours?"
"Not, I stole it."
"What? Doesn't this car have something like vehicle inspection certificate?"
"Ah! I remembered. I saw it a while ago when I put the gun in the box."
"What? You have a gun with you now?"
"Yes. I used it to kill the owner of this vehicle."
"What? You committed a murderer?"
"I put the body properly in the trunk of this car."

The policeman shouted in a loud voice, so the senior officer came to see what was going on.
He heard the details from the young policeman, and then sent him to other place for an easier job.
The officer now decided to question the guy in the car.

"Show your license."
 "Here it is."
The guy showed him the license. It was his own.
"Whose car is this?"
"My own. See this vehicle inspection certificate."
He handed over the certificate. It was really his.
"You have a gun in the box?"
"No way! You can see yourself."
There was nothing inside it.
"What about the dead body in the trunk?"
"There's no body. See for yourself."
Really, the trunk was empty.
"...Strange! The young policeman told me that you don't have license, you stole the car, killed the owner, possess a gun, and even have a corpse in the trunk. I don't understand."
"He's just a big liar. Maybe he even lied about me over-speeding. Don't you think too?"

Japanese Cryptic: Spirit Photography

Translated from Japanese by Shishou(師匠)

Cryptic Story

Spirit photography image
Source: Fatal Frame
I was chitchatting with two of my friends, when someone suggested that why don't we try taking spirit photographs after such a long time. A massacre incident had happened at a private house on the mountain road, so we went to, now deserted, house at midnight.

We looked at every place in the house: entrance, living room, bathroom, restroom, kitchen and study-room.
We climbed up the stairs to explore the second floor. We went inside both the bedroom and the child's room. After that we descended back to the floor one, and explored the back of the house, one by one.

We took the photographs of everything that we could find in that house.

Today, we received the developed photographs.

Nothing on the photograph. We were amazed.

More Creepy Stuff!
